Visit of Commissioner of Persons with Disabilities

Mr.Basavraj , Commisioner for persons with disabilities, Karnataka
visited Roshni. He listened to the problems of children and parents with
disabilities. Parents shared their struggles before the Commissioner and
got assurance to solve their problems.

Disabled day celebration

Disabled day celebration was observed by organizing a jatha of the people with disabilities from Taluk office Hangal to Roshni. More than two hundred people were present for the programme. Programme jatha was inaugurated by G A Gumjad BIERT and the stage programme was inaugurated by Subhas Gadad secretary of Jana hitha Rakshanavedike , Hangal. On this occasion Mr.Kasim Ali, the winner of Kannadadha kogile state level competition was honored for his achievement in spite of his disability. In this programme, children and people with disabilities presented their unity before the officials and demanded for their needs.

Volley ball tournament

Volley ball tournament was organized for the unorganized youth groups in Shivapur. Eight teams participated in the tournament. Lok Manch leaders and Rathnapur GP member Lakshmavva were present to encourage and strengthen youth groups. All the teams played with enthusiasm and lot of interest. Three teams were finalized as the winners and runners up. Five star team Manthigi won the first prize, Geleyara balaga, Malagunda team won the second prize and Kadamba manthigi team won the third prize. Winners were awarded with cash prize and a trophy.

Lok Manch leaders Training

Training on government schemes was organized for Lok Manch leaders in Tree Park, Hangal. Mr.Chanbasappa Havanagi from Taluk Panchayath, Hangal gave the training. 49 LM leaders attended the training and got enlightened on the various government schemes available to the people. Along with the training members had the celebration of Sigehunnime feast by sharing different food items brought from their homes. It was a day of great joy and celebration for all the Lok Manch members.

Training for the unorganized youth

Trainings on social analysis, government schemes and the important documents were given to the youth of Mavakoppa, Rathnapur and Aregoppa villages. Around 90 youth from the three villages participated in the trainings and acquired knowledge on the structure of the society, development in the society, social problems and the changing systems of the society. They were also enlightened on the government schemes available and important documents to be acquired by every individual. Mr.Kallappa Naikar and H.B.Patil were the resource persons for the trainings.

Holiday camp for learning centre children

Roshni conducted three days holiday camp for the children of the learning centre and other children of the village at Shivapur. The camp was conducted in Government higher primary school, Shivapur with the support of SDMC and Education department. During these three days, children were taught various education related concepts and importance of using every day experiences as learning. Children were let free to express their views and present their ideas and learn from the experiences and expressions of each other. Various activities like art, clay modeling, speech and lucky games were conducted to them. At the end of the camp the children displayed their talents and whatever they studied during these three days. It was a great joy for the parents to see their children performing on the stage.

Parents Federation meeting

Federation meeting of parents of children with disabilities was held in Roshni. Mr.Manjunath Kuduri, Lok Manch leader gave a session on leadership. He highlighted on the characteristics and role of a leader. After the session, the federation members discussed issues pertaining to utilization of 5% budget in Gram panchayath , Applying the disability certificate and pension order copy. parents participated in the meeting and took decisions for the welfare of people with disabilities.

 

Health camp

Health camp was conducted in Makaravalli by Lok Manch and VDC members. Orthopedic, Gynecologist and ENT doctors from Rotary Hospital, Sirsi examined the patients. Free check up was done and more than three hundred people benefited from the camp.

Residential camp for developmental delay children and their parents

Four days residential training was organized by Roshni in Backward class hostel in Hangal. Twenty six children and their parents participated in the camp. During this camp parents were trained to take care of their children with disabilities and the stages of development were explained to them. Motor and sensory activities were done along with communication and language development. One day outing was organized to enable children and their parents to have socialization. Dr.Nirakar Devdas from APD trained the parents along with Roshni staff.

 

Training for the parents of children with disabilities

A day’s training was conducted for the parents of children with disabilities. Ms.Veena Byatnal, advocate explained the various provisions and schemes available for people with disabilities. She explained in detail the procedure of applying for government schemes and the duration of getting it sanctioned. 40 parents participated in the training and acquired the knowledge.
